A 50-RUN partnership between teenagers Dogodo Bau and Thomas Willie set up a 125-run win for BNG Poreporena in the Port Moresby Cricket premier division 40-over grand final on Monday.

Poreporena beat long-time Hanuabada rivals United in a one-sided affair to re-claim the premiership after the latter held it for the last three seasons.

Poreporena batting first were all out for 188 runs, and in reply United could only muster 63 runs in a lack-luster reply.

Bau, who had opened, showed patience and good shot selection to anchor their top order top scoring with 76 runs.

The Grade 11 Badihagwa Secondary School student was joined by 17-year-old Willie coming at number six, who ensured they set a good total with an array of shots to score a quick-fire 45 runs off 23 balls.

United’s Mea Nao, Mahuru Dai and Jack Lou were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, United’s recognised batsmen in Dai, Tanti Heni and Ronnie Kivung failed to live up to expectations as the top-order crumbled.

Poreporena’s Loa Sisia (4/16), Raymond Haoda Jnr (3/16) were backed up well by Loa Nou’s flighty off-spinners to humble any fight-back United had of defending the premiership.
