IN the Port Moresby women’s cricket competition BNG Poreporena outclassed a loose Taora outfit on Sunday with a 49-run victory in what was the highlight of women’s cricket over the weekend.

Vagi Gavera (19) was  caught out by Serita Haoda after a 48-run partnership with opener Boni David who anchored the start with a 29 runs.

David fell soon after  to the same combination of Pendel Ipi and bowler Initui Tarabu who managed three wickets for her side.

Poreporena then stabilised their run rate which eventually landed their run spree at 7/115 at the 30th over.

Taora started their run chase in determined fashion but where not making enough runs off their own bats.

Taora’s efforts were helped greatly by the amount of extras, including no-balls and wides, by Poreporena bowlers.

Doura Solok took her time picking her shots and trying to chip away at the Poreporena total right to the last ball however, with a score of 11 she was the only Taora bat who scored double figures.

Poreporena’s  Konio Toka had a good day with the ball taking three wickets.

Taora eventually found themselves all out for 66 after 23 overs.

In the other matches PMMI Coasters 5/158 defeated Badili Hardware 10/43 by 115 runs.

The weekend of cricket saw most matches  washed out due to rain and for the men’s premier matches all were off except one played between SNS United and Taora which saw United win by seven wickets after Taora found themselves unsatisfied just posting a weak 40 in a game which should not have been played on an unrolled turf at Amini.
