Porgera businesses suffering: Chamber

ALL shops in Porgera, Enga, are running out of stock, Porgera chamber of commerce and industry chairman Nickson Pakea says.
Pakea said election-related violence had adversely impacted some communities, districts and provinces.
“The amount of lawlessness in the district has forced people into a depression physically, socially and mentally,” he said.
“The fear over the road being cut off due to election violence along the Wabag-Porgera highway saw almost 60 per cent of the community and all public servants.”
Pakea claimed that this had affected the supply chain for basic goods and services.
“Stores operating at Porgera have also found it hard to get new stock and supply due to violence and tension is high vital at this time as counting is still going on,” he said.
Pakea said innocent lives had been affected.
“We are appealing to the government to provide the needed support like patching the ditch at Surunki and escorting trucking firms to Porgera and back,” he said.
Pakea said that the people of Porgera had been badly affected because of the election-related trouble experienced in Enga.
