Porgera is home to a world-class gold mine, yet there is high poverty, high illegal mining, high rate of alcohol and drug abuse, and schools and hospitals affected by fighting in the communities.
While we don’t hear much of these issues, we do hear a lot about the mine and any issue it faces with members of the community.
Why does it have to be this way? What is happening with Porgera Development Authority (PDA), Porgera Land Owners’ Association (PLOA), Kupiyan Yuu Aduane Company (KYCL)?
