ENGA provincial police commander Supt Philip Welia has thanked Laigaip-Porgera MP Nixon Mangape for his continued support for police.

He thanked Mangape at Porgera station on Wednesday when the MP handed over five new 10-seater vehicles to government departments, including health, law and order, district administration, police and the district electoral office.

Welia said police needed the support of MPs to maintain law and order and to carry out their work.

The vehicle allocated to police will be used by Mobile Squad 12 based at Laiagam.

He said police needed this kind of support to carry out their duties.

“What Mangape, as a first-time MP, is doing will bring about a lot of improvement to law and order,” he said.

He said Enga was well-known for tribal fights and police needed vehicles for mobility.

“Police are here to protect lives, properties and deal with problems to keep the peace,” Welia said.

Mangape said he wanted to see law and order get the attention it needed in the district.

He had earlier given nine vehicles to the district administration, schools, police, health and law and order.

Mangape challenged police and other government departments to look after the vehicles and use them for official purposes.
