REIGNING Northern Conference champions Poro netted five first-half goals to set up a 7-0 shutout of Women’s National Soccer League rookies LFA Originals at 11-Mile outside Lae on Saturday.
The first-half goals came from Aileen David, Raynata Samuel and Meagan Gunemba (double) with Karen Kalapa scoring the first goal of her hat-trick. Kalapa added two more goals in the 75th and 78th minute to seal the win.
In the second match of the conference triple-header, front-runners Bara continued their form in the top-of-the-table clash to beat second-placed Lahi Power2-0.
Lae Biscuit Company-sponsored Bara had to work hard for the win as Power were up for the battle.
But a lapse in defensive concentration by Power saw Charlie Marip opening the scoring in the 34th minute and Nenny Elipas contributed a goal in the 39th minute for a 2-0 lead.
The final match saw Rachael Wadunah-coached Tusbab Laidamon shut out Rainy Lae 5-0.
Madang’s Laidamon squared the ledger after their 0-1 loss in the reverse fixture in the opening round.
The win saw Laidamon leapfrog Rainy Lae into fourth spot. After match-day, Bara are leading with 15, followed by Poro (13), Lahi Power (11), Laidamon (7) Rainy Lae (6) and Originals (0).
