THE Port Moresby Corporate Volleyball Competition (POMCVC) has introduced a new concept which is aimed at selecting players to represent the competition at the Papua New Guinea Volleyball Championships.
The industrial origin challenge will see teams break into their respective industries (Team Government, Team Business, and Team Bankers) and see them compete against each other to push for spots in men’s and women’s sides for the championships.
POMCVC, which has 21 team from both corporate organisations and government departments, will focus on the concept to filter players and officials from its competition to take part at the championships in Lae, Morobe.
POMCVC executives said in a statement that the concept was part of the competition’s long-term goal of sending teams to participate in the Masters tournament on the Gold Coast, Australia, next year.
The competition was established in 2006, with matches being played during the weekdays at Ela Beach. In 2016, after the Pacific Games, the competition was revived and played at PNGEI Volleyball Courts and ran from October 2016 to March 2017, and the first season grand finals were held at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre.
