Port Moresby going to the dogs

Letters

CAN the police in Port Moresby monitor unwanted people at shop fronts, markets, bus stops and other public places and question people about their purpose in hanging around public places?
One can see that the city is being littered with people and unauthorised activities. It is no longer safe for people to move around.
The sale of betel nut and other items including illegal activities by hooligans such as bag snatching, pick pocket and harassment is getting worse.
The increase in eyesore activities and the influx of indecent and unwanted people roaming the street aimlessly has outnumbered and overpowered decent people.
This is as a big threat to the city’s working class population.
Something should be done for the good of the city’s image and the safety of decent and working class population.
Women, girls and the vulnerable are becoming victims of thugs.
This has to change.
Port Moresby is going to the dogs and it is not as what it used to be back in the 60s and 70s.

  • Yes, sadly this is true. Remove these people selling things at undesignated places, especially bus stops and shop fronts.

  • Policemen should be mending, walking and patrolling on foot at day and night at such hotspot in the city, why moving around in vehicles wasting too much fuel and petty crimes still going on when they drive away. Just like security guards mending their property do that in a area or hotspots and we`ll see , its about preventing crime from happening in those frequent places with your presence.

  • So true. People need to change their mindsets and attitude change and follow simple city or town rules.
