THE Papua New Guinea City Mission has received K10,000 from a social club in Port Moresby.

The Hash House Harriers, often referred to as “a drinking club with a running problem”, made the donation as part of its annual Red Dress Run event.

The club started in December 1938 in the Federated Malay States (now Malaysia) by a group of British colonial officers and expatriates.

They have spent Monday evenings running to get themselves  rid of the “effects” of alcohol from the previous weekend.

The club’s Grand Master, Gary Denmam said the event was held annually to raise funds for local charities.

“This year the members decided that the donation should go to the PNG City Mission,” he said.

“We trust that our donations will be impacting scores of underprivileged men, women and children.”

The club members completed the event with a run around Hanuabada village in National Capital District.
