Port Moresby United maintained their perfect record with a 3-1 victory over the previously unbeaten Central United at the Papua New Guinea Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Stanley Tumun’s double and Iamo Maneka’s effort, all in the second half, ensured the win for United.
The win ensured the National Capital District Commission-sponsored franchise remain unbeaten alongside Hekari United after round three of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer league.
There was no firepower from Central as the city side controlled the match.
Port Moresby United official Clement Cafu Anisan commended his players for sticking to their game plan and forcing the opposition away their structure.
“We knew that if we played according to the opposition’s style and didn’t defend well, we would be in trouble. So we stuck to our style and secured the win.
“We played as a team and combined effectively.
“We kept the momentum on our side for much of the match.
“We kept on pushing them to the flanks and eventually we penetrated with the much needed goals through a double from Tumun and one through Maneka.”
Anisan said his players deserved the win.
He said sticking to their game plan and matching the opposition was what helped the side prevail.
