THE Port Moresby Motorcycle Club will celebrate its 15th anniversary at the South Pacific Motor Sports Club tomorrow.
Starting from humble beginnings in 2004 with only four riders, the club has grown and continues to offer excitement and adventure to all who wish to join.
The motorcycle club will celebrate with a ‘Show and Shine’ and invites all motorcyclists regardless of age of motorcycle, condition or brand to join in the fun.
They even have events and prizes for best cars and trucks as well so there is something for everyone, including a tug of war and pie eating competition.
Club member Shannon Gee told The National that there were prizes for a whole range of motorcycle categories. “There will be something for everyone,” Gee said.
The motorcycle club predominantly started as a cross-country trail-riding racing unit but over the years, has included motocross events on its calendar.
The motorcycle club is not afraid to travel, with a yearly major event being held in Bulolo.
“One little known fact is that the Port Moresby Motorcycle Club competed in the gruelling Finke Desert Race in Australia’s red centre many years back,” a club statement said.
The result was that the Papua New Guinea team had carved themselves into the history books as the biggest international team to enter the event in its 45-year history and Papua New Guinea still holds that title to this day.
