Port Moresby Rugby League gives to Ottio family

THE Port Moresby Rugby League board, on behalf of its 16 affiliates, paid a visit on Monday to Tatana village haus krai of the late Kato Ottio.
The board gave K500 to Ottio’s mother Joyce and K500 worth of food, and a cheque for K1000 towards the Kato Ottio trust fund to build a house for the family. Overlooking the sea and the hill of Tatana through the window hung a Kumul Jersey presented by former Kumul great John Wilshere and Michael Marum at Sir John Guise Stadium last Friday during the funeral service.
There was a stack of trophies on one side which spoke of a talented sportsman.
From nowhere, he entered SP-sponsored PRL competition and played for Dobo Warriors in 2014.
After a few games at Ipi Park at Hohola, Ottio was selected for the Southern Confederation trials in Sogeri.
He flew to great heights after that.
He was one of only two players to be picked for the Kumuls from the Zone Championship by-passing the SP Cup, Digicel Cup and the Hunters programme.
The other player to do this was Jessie Joe Parker.
