PORT Moresby Melonas (men) and Pom Black (women) triumphed at the 44th National Softball Championships which ended at the Bisini Softball Diamonds yesterday.
In the men’s final, Melonas edged Rasa 7-5, after the scores were 5-5 at the top of the sixth inning.
But Melonas, at the bottom of that same inning, notched a further two home runs to put the icing on the cake to claim their 11th successive championship.
It was different in the women’s final, as Pom Black thrashed sister team Pom Gold 17-1 to cap off another successful year for the nation’s capital.
Others that competed in the four-day event were Buluminski, Lae and Madang.
Melonas’ Micah Zale and Paul Bogan got two on the home pad on the bottom of the opening inning.
Kepas Mormor and Gima Ora increased the score to four runs in the second inning while keeping their opponents scoreless.
Rasa staged a comeback to equalise 5- 5 but Melonas registered another two runs to seal the win.
