Ports, RVO learn safety drills

 IN an effort to address threats from natural disasters, PNG Ports Corporation Ltd organised an evacuation drill exercise with the staff of Rabaul Volcano Observatory.

PNGPCL staff joined the Observatory and Transport Department last Thursday in an emergency and evacuation drill at the Rabaul port.

All operations came to a stand still for 30 minutes as PNGPCL demonstrated evacuating workers from the port and attending to their injuries. 

It was to show that workers must be prepared to respond quickly during potential emergency situations. 

PNGPCL chief executive officer Stanley Alphonse said safety and security were paramount to the company.

“The ongoing exercise at our ports is to raise awareness on security and safety measures and prepare everyone to respond to natural disasters quickly,” he said.
