Positive mindset seen as leading towards positive changes

A POSITIVE mindset can bring about positive changes in people’s lives and society, Northern Governor Gary Juffa says.
“Do no waste your time feeling sorry for yourselves as this is the greatest impediment to your success,” he told the Northern students from the Divine Word University during his visit recently.
Juffa said such was the case in Northern where people were slowly changing their mindset.
“Northern was once labelled ‘Cowboy Country’, however, that was changing because of the change of mindset of the people.
“Residents were starting to clean around their backyards and there was a decrease in crime,” he said.
Juffa informed the students about the challenges the province was going through to deliver services.
“Even with the limited funds, accessing those funds was a struggle because all fund disbursement was centralised in the national capital,” Juffa said.
“If you want to be heard, you have to be banging on tables.
“There are times in life when you want to do something, however, you are not able to do so due
to limited resources and workforce.
“If you want something, you have to fight for it in life.”
The Northern students at the university presented petition to Juffa for his consideration and assistance. The petition wanted:

  • Student internship for students sponsored by Northern government;
  • support for traditional regalia to participate at DWU Cultural Day;
  • provincial government sponsorship should cover all students regardless of where they live and those born and raised in the province; and,
  • School fees.
