DESPITE all the negativity about Bugandi Secondary School, its soccer club are producing a positive vibe in the Lae Football Association (LFA) competition.
The students were leading the points table with 23 points after beating Buresong 2-0 in men’s A-league on Saturday.
Both sides then picked up the pace with Buresong’s Lui Saki, Jason Murie, Daniel Steven and Papu Winson lifting their attack to make inroads into Bugandi’s turf.
Buresong’s persistence in attack presented the side with opportunities but all goal attempts went wide.
But Bugandi, with the experience of National Soccer League players Tiampo, Oberth Simon and Emmanuel Simongi, kept launching counter-attacks on Buresong’s every mistake. Playing on the left, Tiampo was dangerous with the ball and had opportunities but could not find the mark, with a couple of goals gone begging.
Tiampo added his side’s second goal to extend the lead to 2-0 which they defended to win the match, securing three points to add to their points tally.
Meanwhile, in Sunday’s other men’s A-league game, Eriku Wawens beat City United to win 3-1.
Eriku Wawens cracked the United defence which saw captain Brendan Ben dribble the ball around United’s goalkeeper Ryan Kivia to score after 10 minutes.
The game seesawed before Wawens midfielder Jethro Mauta, looking for an opening in the United defence, sailed the ball past substitute goalkeeper Vagi Koniel to seal the match.
