Koroba-Lake Kopiago MP Philip Undialu says Hela Deputy Governor and acting provincial assembly chairman Thomas Potape had no right to adjourn the provincial assembly session to July 28.
He told The National yesterday that the assembly decided that it reconvened next Tuesday to elect an acting governor but Thomas had made a one-man decision to adjourn to July 28.
Finance Minister and Tari-Pori MP James Marape also said the assembly would meet next Tuesday.
Thomas, however, said he was the one who decided when the assembly should meet.
“I adjourned until July 28. Until then, we can’t sit down and sort out outstanding issues,” he said.
“They (Undialu and Marape) have no power as I am the provincial assembly chairman.”
Undialu, who is in the running with Komo-Magarima MP Francis Potape to be the acting governor, however, rejected Thomas’ suggestion.
“That was the suggestion by the deputy governor (Thomas) but no-one passed it in the provincial as-sembly,” he said.
“I moved a motion and the clerk of the assembly will put it in writing, that we will meet on July 5.”
