KOMO local level government president Thomas Potape has called on the government and developer of the Komo International Airport in Hela to ensure the people’s welfare is taken into consideration in their latest rounds of talks.Landowners of the airport area land, comprising 21 clans, had stopped work at the site last week in protest over outstanding benefits. Work had resumed following talks with government and company officials.
Potape said with about 35% of work on the airport yet to be completed, benefits to the facility owners were not forthcoming.“While the talks had already been held, we still do not expect a good response. Therefore, it is paramount that concerns raised by the facility owners be given serious consideration to avoid continuous problems in the future,” he said.
