Poverty in PNG

Letters

IT is not easy for men to rise when they are affected by poverty.
Poverty is the state in which an individual, group, or population lacks essential elements of life within their societies.
Poverty has various causes, some of which can be removed.
Eliminating the most-complicated underlying causes remains a challenge for both developed and developing nations.
Poverty increases the risk of homelessness.
The decline of living conditions often compels children to leave school to contribute to the family income, putting them at risk of being abused.
Higher poverty risks lead to unrest and also community and domestic violence.
When this happens, it results in nations becoming victims of crime and violence.
Poverty creates an imbalance in the equality of societies, resulting in people being homeless, unemployed and ultimately results in crime and revolution.
Therefore, Wilkins (1988) believes that the conditions that foster crime and violence on an individual level can also lead to destructive behavior on a group level.
Lack of education is another common factor which makes people poor.
It leads to crime and revolution in the societies as well.
People are usually involved in crime because they just roam the streets looking for anything that is valuable to them so that they can make money out of it.
Youths nowadays are involved in criminal activities and commit various crimes because they are poor and they cannot afford basic human needs like food, clothing, shelter, health and education.
Education is the most-important thing in life because it educates individuals to find good jobs in life.
It also develops mindsets of people to be better citizens instead of committing crimes.
Our country lacks employment for its citizens because it is a developing nation.
The majority of indigenous Papua New Guineas are illiterate and do not get a chance to go to school.
Because they are illiterate, they think that the only way to sustain themselves in the long run is by getting involved in criminal activities.
The Government should start looking at these development barriers and start to improve on these weaknesses.
Let us all say no to poverty because it is the whole cause of crime and revolution.
