Power cuts hurting SMEs

Letters

I BRING to the attention of the Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru and his district development authority that small businessowners in Yangoru town are losing big time because of the unreliable power supply.
Businesses rely on electricity. PNG Power should at least warn businessowners of impending power cuts so they can prepare for the shutdown, especially shops selling frozen foods like chicken, beef and butter.
Businesses lose money during power cuts because their frozen goods spoil and are then thrown away.
The local PNG Power employees manning the power station there do not seem to understand how power cuts affect SMEs.
Business people buy frozen foods from Wewak and pay for the PMV to transport them to Yangoru town.
I am appealing to the good member and his DDA to find out what is causing these power outages and find a fix.
If allowed to continue, power cuts will greatly affect the small businessowners in town and the surrounding villages. The local people need electricity and unexplained power blackouts that go on for days are not good for business.
