POLICE arrested a man who allegedly set fire to a power pole at the settlers’ eviction site at Nagada on Wednesday night.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the man was seen at the location where the pole was set alight.
He said taskforce members on patrol attended to the scene and put out the fire.
Supt Rubiang said the man was in custody and police hoped he would identify the others who were with him.
“I am calling on the settlers that are still at Nagada that the eviction exercise will still continue and you must make your way out of the mentioned areas of portion 69, 70 and 78,” he said.
“It is a court order and the eviction exercise will still continue.
“Police will not hesitate to arrest and charge those who damage government properties like what they did to the power pole.”
