Powi invests K20mil in technical skills

Education

THE Southern Highlands government has invested over K20 million in technical vocational education training (Tvet) giving a second chance to school leavers, governor William Powi says.
He said during the graduation of 30 students in driving and business courses at Mapex Training Institute in Port Moresby last Tuesday.
“My efforts to create innovative opportunities for them had been shattered by violence following 2017 general election and the massive 7.5 magnitude earth quake that shook my province on Feb 26, 2018,” Powi said.
“I identified two types of courses for my students, these are short skills driven courses and three years courses, those who did well advance on to technical colleges and National Polytechnic Institutions and onto University of Technology because this is an effective way to bring Southern Highlands back,” Powi said.
Powi released a first batch payments to Mapex Training Institute K500,000; Kumul Training Institute of K200,000; Kingku Training Institute K200,000 and Acatech Aviation Engineering College K500,000 out of the K20 million that was rolled out this year.
