WEST Sepik police commander Michael Tilai says he knows of no police operation in the province moving to arrest political candidates and police personnel allegedly involved in firearms smuggling during the election period.
“I have no idea at all,” Snr Insp Tilai said yesterday.
“We were busy with the elections and performed our normal police operations.”
A media report yesterday said that a major police operation Sun Rise 2, was conducted along the PNG border in West Sepik, extending to Wewak in East Sepik province.
The report said eight foreigners and four Wewak-based policemen suspected of being involved in gun smuggling and human trafficking had been arrested.
The report said seven high powered guns were confiscated.
The smuggling activities were reported to be taking place between the border in Sandaun and logging camps in the East Sepik province.
