PPC: No immunity for officers

POLICE are not immune to the laws, Western Highlands police commander Chief Insp Jacob Kamiak says.
Kamiak said this in response to the revoking of K100 bail for seven Mt Hagen policemen by the Mt Hagen District Court Magistrate Donald Joseph on Monday.
Kamiak said that if his police officers broke the law, they would face justice like any other citizen.
He added that it was up to the court to decide their fate.
Joseph told the officers, who appeared in court on police bail, that the amount set for bail was insufficient and undermined the law on the Summary Offence Amended Act.
He ordered the policemen to be placed in custody and imposed a K500 court bail on each of them.
Joseph said he would hear their case later.
It was alleged that the policemen assaulted a man and took K1,000 from him last week.
