JIWAKA police have warned the group of Andpang landowners blocking access to the Fatima mission station to clear the road.

Provincial police commander Superintendent Joseph Tondop said he wanted to see students returning to classes by next Monday.

Tondop said the landowners must not deprive the rights of students and teachers going to school. He said the landowners had discussed their grievances with the provincial administration and Lands Department over the land.

Tondop said the K13 million land compensation claim could be addressed by the Government but they must not block access to the school.

“I want to assure the parents, students and teachers that normal classes will start on Monday. Whether the Andpang (landowners) get their K13 million or not is not the concern of the police,” he said.

Tondop said he wanted the roadblock to be lifted today so that students could move in during the weekend.

He said setting up illegal roadblocks was a criminal offence. “Jiwaka police will be in Fatima on Monday to ensure that registrations and classes resume are normal,” he said.

He said schools in the country had started two weeks ago and there was no reason why students attending various educational institutions in Fatima should be deprived of their right to education.
