PPC wrong about raid on village
The National, Wednesday July 8th, 2015
THE justification for burning down of 43 houses of innocent citizens by policemen along the Kama-Bihute road as declared by Eastern Highlands provincial police commander is very shallow and lacks reasoning.
Here’s the exact quote from PPC Kale (The National, July 7, Page 6,) “….police had no grudges with the people of Kama in Eastern Highlands but had burnt down a number of houses to show their anger over the death of their colleague.” Likewise, the people of Kama had no grudges over any police officers or the relatives of the deceased for that matter.
The untimely death of the off-duty, unlicensed drunken policeman was a result of Kama villagers venting their mere frustrations on a careless driver for hitting 3 of their family members whilst running at high speed on wrong lane with its head lights off.
Should the proper process of investigation be followed other than policemen “showing their anger” as a means to apprehend the suspects, the suspects would still be apprehended regardless. Two wrongs cannot make a right.
Policemen and women are there to enforce laws and not reacting to emotions or do anything outside of their jurisdiction.
The justification by PPC Kale goes to show his lack of discernment, control and command in his capacity to uphold law and order in the province.
My appeal to Police Commissioner Gari Baki is to do something to restore trust and confidence in the EHP police command.
This is lacking with PPC Kale who seems to be working in isolation and igorance of the situation on the ground.
