PPL, Dirio seal power purchasing deal for Hela

The Dirio Gas and Power Company was commissioned last November to supply 45MW of power using natural gas from the PNG LNG project. The station is about 20km northwest of Port Moresby in Central.

PNG Power Ltd and Dirio Gas and Power Company Ltd have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for Hela recently.
According to a statement from Hela Governor Philip Undialu, the PPA was for Dirio to build between 30 and 50 megawatts of power for PPL to distribute to the highlands grid.
According to Unidalu, Dirio has delivered first power project at Caution Bay, near PNG LNG plant site outside Port Moresby.
“The long delay was to allow PPL to upgrade its transmission and substation infrastructure,” he said.
“Hela and Southern Highlands have been in dark for the last 30 years.
“The rest of the Highlands and Mamose are in need of cheap and reliable power supply.
“That’s what this PPA is about.
“Cheap and reliable power supply from Hides is a game changer for the Highlands and part of Mamose.
“To the Hela community, its fulfilment of ‘Hela Gigira Laitebo prophecy’.”
