OFFICERS of Newcrest and PNG Air conducted an emergency drill at the Kunaye international airport in Lihir, New Ireland, on emergency rescue operations.
The drill focused on how safely passengers can be evacuated from an aircraft during an emergency.
Officers from Newcrest’s fire and emergency response team, PNG Air and the International SOS medical unit practised putting out a fire, deal with casualties and evacuating people from an aircraft.
PNG Air general manger safety and corporate strategy Craig Chapple said: “Safety is our priority and we do emergency drills three times a year from desktop training simulations to real-time drills at different locations in the country.”
He said that apart from following Civil Aviation Safety Authority regulations, this was also a way to see how responses could be improved in accidents.
