Practice of law goes back to biblical times: Sakora
The National, Monday February 29th, 2016
LAW is an ancient profession that has been practised since the biblical times, Justice Sir Bernard Sakora says.
He said people who became lawyers undertook a significant duty to the profession as the practice was in existence since Prophet Moses received the 10 Commandments from God.
When outlining the theme based on professional ethics at the admission of 89 lawyers to the bar on Friday, Sir Bernard said lawyers needed to exemplify the significance of the profession in their conduct.
He called on the lawyers to maintain their hygiene, be well-attired and well-groomed while being punctual at all times at court hearings as the traits would help build theircareers.
Sir Bernard urged the new admissions to have good manners as it not only was free but promoted a person’s status as a human being in the community they live din.
While discouraging bad practices in the law profession, he said the court had open-ended and undefined powers to maintain discipline.
Sir Bernard told the lawyers, who took an oath to uphold the constitution and laws of the country, to aspire in the profession so that they would one day become judges and continue the profession handed down from the biblical era.
