Premiers Wigmen out to end losing streak

DEFENDING premiers Hela Wigmen are under pressure and they will be out to avoid a fourth loss on the trot as the Digicel Cup finals draws near.
The Kroton-sponsored side will face an underrated Gulf Isou outfit but coach Charlie Wabo is asking for more effort from his players after dropping consecutive matches to the Lae Tigers, Mendi Muruks and Port Moresby Vipers.
A win for Wigmen, who are fifth on the competition ladder, would assure their placing in the top six.
The premiership winning coach has made few changes in the lineup as former Mendi Muruk Sylvester Bulu was named at fullback replacing Siki Konden who drops out of the match day 17.
Former Port Moresby Viper Philemon Taim was also named at hooker replacing former SP Hunter Patrick Morea.
Regular winger Nanduka Rame returns after missing last week’s game.
Rame replaces Bob Nale while Rodger David was named on the other wing replacing Ian James.
Wabo made the changes after his side were kept scoreless (10-0) by the Vipers last Sunday in Port Moresby.
He said the loss against the Vipers was disappointing and that his side showed little creativity and cohesion in attack.
“Our combinations are not working and we really need to get that right in the remaining games,” he said.
“We dropped plenty of ball against the Vipers too so we have to cut down on that.”
Meanwhile, for Wigmen opponent Gulf Isou, who sit in the bottom half of the 12-team ladder, coach Bagelo Solien says his team are taking a “nothing to lose” approach in the final few games of the season.
