Preparation on par for festival

AN international exhibition will be the feature of the Global Village Festival in Port Moresby in May.
Director-General for UNESCO Yori Yei said preparations for the cultural festival to run from May 21 to 24 were well underway.
“Logistics and venues for the festival have already been secured,” he said.
“There is no specific funding for the event however a partnership approach with relevant stakeholders and embassies and high commissions have shown positive signs of assisting.”
The festival will feature an international exhibition to be opened by Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio, an international performance of different cultures to be hosted at the Port Moresby Arts Theatre.
An international ball will promote cultural diversity initiatives such as community projects and UPNG cultural studies programme.
Yei said the objective of the Global Village Festival is too:
l Implement the UN General Assembly Resolution 57/249 and the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity;
l the National Commission for UNESCO specifically designed the Global Village Festival to promote culture diversity in the country;
l administer local interventions to contribute to global efforts to address cultural diversity in the country; and,
l Create space for dialogue for increasing cultural understanding and tolerance in PNG.
