PREPARATIONS are well underway for the JKT LIM Mamas Cordial Trans Highway Sevens, set to kick off from Jan 16-17, with 14 teams confirmed to participate over the weekend.
Local clubs Harlequins, Pirates, Telikom, Vikings and an U20 Rookies side have all been confirmed along with visiting sides Madang One, Madang Two, Kimbe Rebels, Hoskins, Bulolo, Tararan Sagasek, Goroka. Oro and Buka have still yet to confirm their participation.
Morobe clubs Unitech Reds, Royals and Defence were not present for the meeting on Monday night to register their interest and have been left out.
Organisers had gone hard with the drive to make the year’s event a big one, attracting outside centres and the JKT LIM K20,000 total prize money sponsorship package.
With the confirmation of national champions Kimbe Rebels’ participation, the weekend has shown promise for an exciting challenge in Morobe province.
Organisers also called for all participating teams to complete medical checks and their final lists of 12 players and three team officials before the final meeting and registration deadline next Tuesday, and fax details to facsimile 472 6720.
Morobe clubs participating have also been advised to meet next Tuesday at the Huon Gulf Hotel pool side at 5pm.
More information can also be obtained by calling 472 1618 and 472 4126.
Meanwhile, all Morobe rugby club executives have been asked to prepare for the annual general meeting (AGM) next Wednesday.
