PNG Powerlifting Federation president Raymond Haoda has hailed the Pacific Games powerlifting competition that ended last Friday a great success.

PNG again finished on top with eight gold, three sliver and four bronze medals followed by Nauru, Samoa, Tuvalu, Fiji and Tahiti.

Haoda said it was good for the federation to win eight gold medals as predicted.

He said he was glad for the overall performance, which was one step higher than their 2011 Noumea performance where the lifters won seven gold medals.

He said the results and performances reflect on the time and effort spent preparing for the games.

“We are proud of the government, our sponsor KK Kingston and the PNG Olympic Committee for backing us up to implement our plans for the games.

“We are also very privileged for engaging expert coach Scot Upston who came and really helped pushed our lifters to the next level.

Finals results: Top 6.1. PNG (7 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze); 2. Nauru (4 gold, 6 silver, 2 bronze); 3. Samoa (2 gold, 3 silver, no bronze); 4.Tuvalu (1 gold, no silver, 2 bronze; 5. Fiji (1 silver,1 bronze); 6. Tahiti (1 silver,1 bronze)
