President tells of major review
The National,Wednesday 06th of February, 2013
NETBALL in the country is to undergo a major review, with two new expatriate development officers to join its ranks.
Papua New Guinea Netball Federation president, Julienne Leka-Maliaki said they would shortly review governance and administration, game development, organisational structure and social development programmes.
Leka-Maliaki said that had resulted from its successful application to AusAid’s “Pacific Sport Programme” coordinated through the Australian Sports Commission and implemented in conjunction with Netball Australia and Netball New Zealand.
Other regional members like the Cook Islands, Vanuatu, Samoa and Tonga are recipients of this programme, which has taken netball to another level in the region.
Critical to this process is the recruitment of their first ever operations manager and netball development officer who will start working immediately on PNG Netball’s 2013 programe.
The announcement of the two new people will be made in early March.
Another two to three regional netball development officers will be recruited in the coming months.
Leka-Maliaki said starting the process would be the second governance workshop held in Port Moresby on Feb 23-24.
That will include the presidents of all member associations, selected netball followers, key stakeholders and the media.
The workshop will include a review of the netball federation’s constitution, by-laws and other policy documents and the proposed restructure of the sport.
The workshop will be facilitated by experts from Netball Australia who arrive in the country on Feb 19.
All council members are urged to contact PNG Netball immediately regarding their attendance.
Following the workshop, the review starts and will include accreditation of umpiring, coaching and bench officials and volunteers.
That will enable all technical officials to be properly certified, accredited, recognised and rewarded for their commitment and efforts to netball over the years.
