A PRIMARY school in the Southern Highlands is the first in the province to launch its five-year infrastructure development plan.
Ponowi Primary School in the Ialibu-Pangia district produced its draft plan last Thursday.
Headmaster Siri Yoko said the plan was to achieve long-term developments goals.
“My staff and board have supported this plan that will capture the tuition free fee subsidy from the Government and utilise it properly under the plan,” he said.
“I will not use and exhaust the entire school subsidy blindly. It can be used as counter-funding to obtain extra funds for a five-year period.”
Yoko said headmasters and board members of schools could change anytime but plans could be followed by those taking over to continue development in schools.
At the launching of the plan, Southern Highlands administrator Ungia Kembo said Ponowi Primary was the first in the province to come up with a five-year infrastructure development plan that complemented the PNG’s Vision 2050 and Southern Highlands’ master plan.
He said other government sectors should do the same.
“This is the way forward to develop our education and health sectors and other government agencies to have some guiding mechanism to achieve our vision.
“Without plans and vision, this province will head nowhere and it is evident that the last administration was run on ad-hoc basis with no plans,” Kembo said.
