PRIME Minister Sir Michael Somare has fulfilled his 2009 commitment to the Buang people of Bulolo district by presenting a cheque for K61,000 to improve health and education facilities.
The cheques were handed over to Morobe provincial administrator Kemaseng Tomala for schools and health centres.
Schools at Mapos, Wagau and Segne would share K50,000 while the Buang sub-health centre would get K5,000.
The remaining K6,000 would be given to the local brass band.
Sir Michael was at the opening of the Gabensis-Muniyau back road linking the Buang council area.
He also presented a cheque for K25,000 to the administrator, from which K10,000 each were for the Gingala Lutheran church and Pindiu Primary School while K5,000 was for sports and culture in Morobe.
Sir Michael presented K86,000 personally while in Lae last Friday to launch the 1.25 kilometre portion of Huon Road between Seventh Street roundabout and Admin compound at Bumneng.
Bulolo MP Sam Basil yesterday said Sunday Feb 13“marks the second anniversary of the day when Sir Michael Thomas Somare set foot in Buang to open the Gabensis-Muniyau access road”.
“Somare also pledged K2 million for Buang roads and K60,000 for other projects,” Basil said.
