KOROBORO International School principal Peter O’Sullivan says learning music as part of a curriculum and performing in public builds a student’s confidence.
A total of 100 students from grade one to six with 30 teachers took part in the schools’ music festival on Saturday in Port Moresby.
O’Sullivan said exposing the children to the wider community and allowing them to express themselves was good for their development.
“They are taught music and singing and then they perform in front of an audience which helps their self-esteem and confidence grow,” he said.
O’Sullivan said the students performed several items, including choir singing and playing the recorder as well as a band and dance performance.
“We also introducing sign language. While they are singing they will do sign language as well,” he said.
O’Sullivan said the school had their first public performance last year and would have another music festival at the end of the year.
