THE Madang provincial Works Department is making the upgrade of the Madang-Ramu Highway a priority.

The work will take in the collapsed Omeya and Wasigo bridges and scheduled to be finished before Christmas.

Newly-appointed Madang provincial Works manager John Sitapai said the road would be fixed sooner than later after Usino-Bundi MP Anthon Yagama called on the Government for urgent response to the deteriorating road.

Yagama said the public and business houses were affected by the poor road conditions.

Sitapai said the Madang Works Department could not do the work itself and needed support from provincial leaders, local MPs and the landowners along the highway.

“Last year, we were given only K1.5 million for emergency work and used that up. Now, the secretary is giving me the task to fix that road and we will do that soon,” Sitapai said.
