THE Southern Highlands provincial government has given Buiebi Prison K100,000 to meet operational costs.

Prison commander Supt Felix Namane said this was the first time the jail had received such funding from the provincial government.

He said the jail needed money to meet some of its priority areas like the maintenance of vehicles, repairing water pumps, replacement of broken water pipes, septic toilets, repairs to the standby generator and to buy fuel.

He thanked Governor William Powi for recognising the needs of the jail.
