MISS Sanctuary Rapopo Hotel Leilani Konjib’s visit to Bomana prison yesterday touched female prisoners who saw love, care and affection in her, says a female prisoner.
Madlin Yari from Hela said she lost connection with the outside world when she was in the prison and such visits from a “beautiful young woman like Miss Sanctuary” made her see herself as a women with beauty and dignity.
“Some of us leave our jobs and end up here and since the law says to dress in a certain way such as being bald every time, I just follow. Sometimes I tend to forget my gender,” Yari said.
Konjib brought toiletries, sewing materials and two 50kg bags of flour to the 40 inmates to help restore unity.
“Our aim includes activities such as sharing stories with inmates, reading a collection of letters of hope written by the members of the communi-ties to them,” she said.
Konjib shared some of her inspiring stories with them.
She allowed the female prisoners to share some of their stories as well.
