A PRIVATE school in Port Moresby is offering secondary education to those who did not make it through the formal education system.

Papua New Guinea Education Development Services Secondary School (PNGEDSSS) is offering the same courses that are offered in government schools, following the national education curriculum.

Speaking to parents and students during the orientation on Thursday, director and founder John Rumints said none of the students who dropped out from grades 10 and 12 were failures.

He said the only problem was with the capacity of government schools to cater for all the students.

“This school (PNGEDSSS) was established with an aim to help students who were displaced from school every year.

“We cannot continue to expect the government to do everything. We have to partner with the government to address this problem,” Rumints said.

PNGEDSSS started in 2011 in Jiwaka and has branches in Mt Hagen, Lae and Port Moresby.

“Our aim is to reach all the 22 provinces in the country providing young people with an alternative pathway to success,” He said.

PNGEDSSS is recognised by the Department of Higher Education and receives subsidies every year.

The students sit the national Grades 10 and 12 examinations and go through the same selection process as those in government schools.
