TEACHERS in private schools in East New Britain province will be undergoing in-service training soon to improve their teaching skills.
The training, which will be facilitated by the non-state education training providers, will engage mainly teachers in private schools with the aim of improving education in the province and the region.
NSETP is an association established in February and is now recognised in the province to coordinate a group of private schools to ensure they work in partnership with the division of education in providing quality education.
The association chairman Michael Pau said this would help in catering for the large number of drop-outs from state schools.
He said the in-service training would start on Monday and was the “first of its kind” for teachers in private schools in the province.
“The number of school-aged children is increasing but there are not enough facilities to cater for the growing population,” he said.
Pau said while recognising human resource as a vital key to developing the nation, education facilities that were available were limited and could not cater for all education needs.
He said many students dropped out of all levels of education, returned to their villages and resorted to illegal activities.
“There is no such thing as failures, we need to organise ourselves and our resources,” he said.
He said it was vital to prepare teachers in private schools to perform to their best to provide quality education.
“If they can perform to their best, they will surely give the best to the students,” he said.
The week-long training will include introduction to computing, principles of teaching and learning skills and principles of teaching at a professional level.
Pau called on all private schools in the province and the islands region to affiliate with the association to ensure private schools provide quality education.
