Private sector needs govt to help boost digital capacity

THE private sector needs government support to boost digital capacities, says Russian researcher Karina Kudakaeva.
“The important thing is to have the government cooperating with businesses to build the infrastructure first as it requires long-term investment from businesses and they are not always ready to do that,” Kudakaeva said at the Apec Study Centre’s consortium conference in Port Moresby yesterday.
“That’s why the role of the government is important as it has to have dialogue and persuade businesses that they need to do this and that there will be support for this.
“Greater cooperation will lead to having much-needed infrastructure in place and the lead-up to this can also be a means to have people involved in this process of digital transition that can also be beneficial.”
Conference chairman Dr Osbourne Sanida said this was a means for people to be more engaged in the production of goods and services.
“When talking about connectivity we must note that PNG, as with any other Apec economy, is not an island. We are all connected and as we talk about IT or ICT there is inclusive connectivity in that it associates with different aspects as well,” he said.
