Private service providers receive training for Apec

  • A ta xi driver is an unofficial ambassador of PNG who plays an important role in the whole experience of a tourist.
    Chief Executive Officer of PNG Tourism Promotion Authority,Jerry Agus said a taxi driver’srole was important as he was the first person to meet a tourist thus gives the tourist the first impression of what to expect in PNG.
    Agus made these remarks during the Asia Pacific Economic Corporation event awareness and customer service training for taxi service providers in PortMoresby last week.
    He said the aim of the training was to promote and enhance the skills of the local taxi drivers and operators to provide better taxi services to Apec delegates and also to address the challenges and issues of being a guide and driver.
    He said taxi drivers plays the role of a tour guide and should be educated on providing the best customer service which included;
  • what to do when they see atourist
  •  how to greet the tourist
  •  how to open the booth
  •  listening skills
  •  dressing code
  •  general knowledge aboutPNG (attractive and historicalsites)
    Agus thanked the six taxi operatorsfor attending the one daytraining which they were certifiedwith certificates of participation.
