Private university conducts online classes
A PRIVATE university has continued running classes online during the national state of emergency.
The Institute of Business Studies (IBS) University, at its Mt Eriama campus, and IBS College of Technical and Vocational Education Training (Tvet) at its 6-Mile Saraga campus have been running normal classes online for its students, vice-chancellor Dr Ramachandran Arunachalam said.
He said since the Covid-19 pandemic forced schools to be suspended from March 23, the university had been running lectures online until normal classes resumed on April 27.
“Our lecturers are using Moodle for IBSU students and Blackboard for Southern Cross University students to offer collaborative sessions, upload lecture videos, study materials, discussion notes, submission of assignments, conducting of quiz examinations, revision examinations,” he said.
“In addition to that, unit lecturers also created a WhatsApp group to disseminate information and to clarify doubts quickly.”
Dr Arunachalam said an assessment was carried out after the 14-day lockdown to find out the effectiveness of the online delivery mode.
