SUSPENDED Port Moresby Rugby League (PRL) match coordinator Meke Maino has called on PRL chairman Samson Unagi and his board to come clean on the recent issues of the league.
He pointed to the suspensions of  board members by former chairman and now Moresby Northeast MP Labi Amaiu as reason enough for them to step aside and be answerable to the allegations against them.
Maino’s call comes after another delay, this time of 14 days, by the PRL board to address allegations against its members by club presidents in a petition dated July 25.
The delegates meeting last Friday again resulted in the deferral.
“The recent events are the clubs’ expressions of dissatisfaction at the way their competition has been managed.
“If everything was moving well, why would anybody be making noises? It’s because  they are not happy,” Maino said.
Unagi had said that the board had suspended Maino last week citing theft.
He had gone to Maino’s residence last week Tuesday accompanied by policemen in search of the PRL constitution, league documents and the venue hire money of K3,000 which Maino had collected but upon finding nothing, escorted Maino to the Boroko police station, where he was charged and locked up.
Maino was later released on bail with the assistance of Dobo Warriors and Royals Presidents Wari Varage and Brian Kombe.
“The club presidents and the referees as stakeholders of the league have every right to ask and know about where the league was in terms of its management, financials, and competition.
“In the leagues structure, the players make the clubs, and the clubs make the board. The clubs are concerned for their player’s interests, but whose interest does the board serve or look after by refusing to address the issues raised by the presidents.”
Attempts to get a comment from Unagi were unsuccessful.
