PRL plans major facelift

RUGBY league premier venue in Papua New Guinea, the Lloyd Robson Oval in Port Moresby is in a sorry state and needs a major facelift.
And plans to renovate and upgrade the facilities at the Port Moresby rugby league clubhouse and its vicinity have been prolonged because of the ongoing court battle between Brothers RFL club treasurer Richard Sinamoi and PRL chairman Labi Amaiu.
Last Friday, a court order was hand-delivered to Amaiu summoning him and his board to appear in court to explain whether the Port Moresby rugby league AGM held on Nov 12 last year was in line with its constitution.
Amaiu was preparing for a Super 9s rugby league challenge presentation ceremony when the incident happened.
On receiving the court order, he said: “My board is prepared to go to court. (But) the game should continue because it is bigger than any individual.”
Port Moresby rugby league general secretary said the ongoing court battle would not help the league but do more damage.
He said it would bring the game into disrepute and prolong plans to renovate and upgrade the existing facilities.
Furthermore, there were leakages from the roof into the clubhouse forming a pool of water after heavy rain on Sunday.
Some children were seen having fund and enjoying themselves in the pool of water.
Most facilities in and around the field have deteriorated and are unsafe for the players, families and fans to sit, watch and enjoy the games.
It was also alleged that several spectators sitting in the outer stands had suffered injuries during the Ipatas Cup grand final between Paga Panthers and Butterflies.
Asked about the rundown facilities, current board members said there were plans for a facelift.
“We have plans in place to rebuild and renovate the place. The court is dragging this thing further and it is really bad for the game itself,” Stone said.
He blamed Sinamoi and his group for the delay because of the ongoing court battle.
Amaiu reiterated that plans were already in place to upgrade the building and the facilities around its perimeters.
