Probe demanded into killing

TSAK Valley’s Yambrani Pausa tribe leader Michael Masket Kekeo says the people of Enga want Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) President John Momis to immediately look into the killing of Kalia Exploration Company chief geologist Terry Win Kilya on Dec 12.
“His unexpected death and the manner in which he died have left Enga in shock and pain, especially his tribesmen from Tsak Pumokos,” he added.
Kilya, 46, from Wapenamanda’s Tsak Pumakos village, was conducting exploration at Mt Tore project site in South Bougainville when he was murdered by rebellious Mt Tore landowners.
Kekeo said, Section 52 of the Constitution gave freedom of movement for Papua New Guineans to work and live in the AROB and vice-versa.
He demanded an apology from the AROB government and the people of Bougainville.
“We have not killed a single Bougainvillean in Enga because we Engans have the tendency to look after the people from other provinces or outsiders that are part of our community.
“Many Bougainvillean elites who have visited, worked or lived in Enga have not received any form of ill-treatment or violence from our tribesmen. This killing of our son, brother, father, uncle and elite tribesman have left questions for the government to answer about the current fate of granting independence to AROB,” he added.
Kekeo claimed that Kilya’s killing was pre-planned.
Kilya’s body was found at the bottom of a cliff by locals on Dec 14, two days after the slaying.
He urged law enforcement agencies in Bougainville to act quickly and arrest the killers.

  • Sorry for the lose of life please leave the people of the AROB to mine what ever resources they…people never learn do they? Kalia Exploration Company should be held responsible for Kilya’s death.

  • As far as late Terry Win Kilyia’s tribe is concerned the issue of independence for Bougainville has nothing to do with the brutal murder of late Terry Win Kilyia. The concerned reporter who published this article is hereby asked to publish in writing that the following statement was NOT part of Michael Masket Kekeo’s statement.
“This killing of our son, brother, father, uncle and elite tribesman have left questions for the government to answer about the current fate of granting independence to AROB,”.
