Probe Kabwum funds
The National, Tuesday 4th September, 2012
I SUPPORT the comments by “Bonz@bcb” of Lae in his letter “Kabwum has nothing to show for the millions”.
The MP and former governor promised to fund some projects but nothing eventuated.
I have vested interest in the Wasu Kabwum coffee mill as a shareholder and business adviser.
While I commend the wisdom of the proponents of the Ukata Coffee Mill in their endeavour to revive it, I feel that processes and procedures may not have been followed.
Some key questions that come to mind are:
l Was there a feasibility study done to determine what went wrong with the previous mill?
l How were the shareholders involved in the proposed resurrection (my father was a pioneer shareholder, yet was not informed)?
l How was the company name changed and did it follow the procedures required by the Companies Act 1997?
l Who are the Ukata shareholders, directors and managers and what are their qualifications to
be custodians of this public entity?
l Have the proponents spoken with pervious managers to determine the reason for its collapse and how did they assure the Kabwum MP or the former governor that they will resurrect the mill?
I call on the Kabwum MP and the new governor
to screen such proposals and requests prior to committing a hefty amount of public money.
