THE Department of Health will investigate why women living along the Fly River in Western are suffering from unusual bleeding.
The issue was recently raised by North Fly MP Boka Kondra.
The Health Department has sent a team to investigate the reports that people living along the Fly River were dying from unusual, continuous bleeding and were facing serious medical
problems.
The department said a report would be made available once the team returned at the end of the week.
Health Minister Michael Malabag said he was aware and has concerned about the health problems faced by the people living along the Fly River.
“The issue was taken up to the National Executive Council (NEC).
“NEC is working closely with the health department to help the suffering women and children,” he said.
Malabag also confirmed that reports on the medical and health problems faced by the Fly River people had been done but no action was
taken.
“I want to assure the people and members of parliament from the province that I will look into their concerns and check the health situation affecting the people,” he
said.
Kondra said the women suffered prolonged bleeding after menstruation.
“There are many mothers and children dying,” Kondra said.
MPs from the province, including Governor Ati Wobiro South Fly’s Aide Ganasi, Middle Fly’s Roy Biyama and Kondra, are trying to get help from the national
government.
